Death, Dying, and Afterlife Blog

In Health we have been studying about Death, Dying, and the Afterlife. We have learned about some different cultural beliefs and traditions. We have learned about ways to cope and manage when a person passes away.

  • What is your chosen topic for investigation?

I have chosen to investigate this topic because I want to deepen my learning and understanding about the ways to cope and manage when a person passes away.

  • Interesting informations

Interesting pieces of information about ways to manage coping when a person passes away are there are people who have different beliefs about coping mechanisms and some people go through it differently than other people. Some people may not go through it at all or not go through all the dimensions of coping. Grieving is normal, as the same with coping.

  • How did you demonstrate respect towards others’ cultural beliefs that are different to yours?

There were a number of ways that I demonstrated respect towards other culture beliefs during this unit. I did this by using the “agree to disagree” rule. By this rule I can still show my respect to the culture and their beliefs by agreeing to them even though I still have my opinion on the other hand. Listen to their stories and experiences, without being critical or judgmental. I can also show my respect towards their beliefs by asking questions and taking a genuine interest in what it means to be from another culture, because this will not only help me to broaden my worldview, but also help me to show respect for cultural differences when they arise. Showing also my respect to them may bring the confidence in them in sharing their cultural and traditional beliefs.

  • Why is it important that you take care of all areas of hauora when we experience change, loss, or grief?

It is important that I take care of all areas of my hauora when I experience change, loss, or grief because it will not just brighten my views about it, it will also help me to help others when they experience the same. I can take care of my hauora when I experience change, loss, or grief by going through the dimensions of coping and finding things that will help me to cope. Also by accepting the grief that i may feel.
